Are you living in the ACT or planning your next visit? We have an app for you. “ACTabout” is your little app to guide you about our nation’s tiniest Territory using your current location and takes away the hassle of deciding what to do by giving you choices based on your mood.
Our team “For Data Sake” thought about the users first. The users are the fine folks who live in the ACT and those who are just visiting. Depending on your mood, we have six categories to explore what’s around. “Be Healthy” directs you to the nearest fitness sites, skate parks and basketball courts. “Be Wild” shows you where echidnas and koalas have roamed. “Be Inspired” showcases the nearest arts facilities, public art displays and graffiti sites.
We mashed data from 17 open datasets from the ACT Government – the data was cleaned, we grabbed the latitude and longitude of various ACT facilities, sites and services (Awards for Best Data Mashup, Best Data Wrangling, Best Location-based Hack, Community/Liveability Hack). We built the ACTabout app to display what’s around your current location on a map. We even give users the option to find the nearest drinking fountains and public toilets when you’re on the move.
So, whether you’re a mum with kids that wants to keep their kids entertained outdoors, a social butterfly that needs to organise a last minute barbeque by a playground, or hunting for the nearest kangaroo, ACTabout will get you about.
